The kingdom of God is an upside down sort of kingdom. What we devalue, He values supremely. In each episode of this passage, Jesus takes up a new subject matter and seems to swap out the price-tags that we have assigned to those categories. The resulting picture of life--deeply committed marriages; passionate, devoted singleness; childlike faith and radical generosity--seems impossible. And indeed it is. Without God.
