We didn't get as far today as I thought we might, but that's because I took another tangent. Today's conversation dealt almost exclusively with Jesus' use of the word/place Gehenna. We did talk about a few other items as well, but I bounced around a bit trying to pull together some background verses to help understand the place called Gehenna as well as possible ways Jesus would use the location to depict judgement.

I kept saying "Valley of Himnon" for some reason when I meant to say "Valley of Hinnom." I will also paste a fair portion of my notes into a new comment so you have the framework and the verses that I was using (as well as others I didn't mention) throughout the Gehenna discussion. That topic deserves a much fuller study and could itself take a long time to cover, but the intent today was just to lay down some foundation for some thinking on what Gehenna (translated "hell" in our bibles) might mean to the people of the Old Testament and, especially, to Jesus' followers in the first century.
