For Reading and Meditation:      Jeremiah 31:1-12"How little real love there is for God," says theologian Arthur W. Pink. He suggests that this and the resulting low level of spirituality in today's Church are caused by our hearts being so little occupied with thoughts of the divine love. "The better we are acquainted with His love," he says, "- its character, its fullness, its blessedness - the more will our hearts be drawn out in love to Him." We focus now on the fact that God's love is eternal. God being eternal, it follows that His love also is eternal. This means that God loved us before earth and heaven were called into existence, that He has set His heart upon us from all eternity. This is the truth set forth in Ephesians 1:4-5 where we are told that we were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. What a tranquilizer this is for our hearts! If God's love for you had no beginning then it has no ending either. It is from "everlasting to everlasting." Another thing we need to know about the love of God is that it is a holy love. This means that His love is not regulated by whim, or caprice, or sentiment, but by principle. Just as His grace reigns not at the expense of righteousness but "through" it (Romans 5:21), so His love never conflicts with His holiness. This is why John says that God is light before he says God is love. And this is why, too, the Almighty never lets us get away with anything. He loves us too much for that. His love is pure, holy and unmixed with maudlin sentimentality. God will not wink at sin, not even in His own people.O Father, the more I learn about Your love the more my heart is set on fire. Increase my understanding, for I see that the more I comprehend how much I am loved the more secure I am in that love. "I have loved you with an everlasting love " (v. 3)

The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. § The Lord will show who is His and who is holy. § Your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. § There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear. Lord, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You. § When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path. § He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. The solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. It appends no commentary, but simply allows scripture to speak for itself.

Morning Daily Light

 The Lord weighs the hearts. 

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. § We … have access by one Spirit to the Father. O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. The Spirit … helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. § This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. § When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication.

 Praying in the Holy Spirit. 

It is the Spirit who gives life. § The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. § [Pray] always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance. I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have given me life. § The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. § The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. § If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. § This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. No one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

 Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. 

The Helper, the Holy Spirit. § Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? § It is God who works in you. We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. § A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

Evening Daily Light

 The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. 

Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. § [Pray] always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. § This is the will of God, your sanctification. God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness … Who has also given us His Holy Spirit. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.

 The Spirit . . . makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 

O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. § Not as I will, but as You will. § Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. You do not know what you ask. § He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul. § These things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. I want you to be without care. § You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

 Your will be done.

</blockquote>Prayer to God must come from God. There can be no prayer in the full assurance of faith apart from the known will of God in the matter. "The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know His will" (<a id="verse_1632880023545763" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Acts/22/14">Acts 22:14</a>)."I do not think that a petition that misses the mind of God will ever be answered (<a id="verse_1632880023774735" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/1-John/5/14">1 John 5:14</a>). Personally, I feel the need of trusting Him to lead me in prayer as well as in other matters. I find it well to preface prayer not only by meditation but by the definite request that I may be directed into the channels of prayer to which the Holy Spirit is beckoning me (<a id="verse_1632880023915981" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/8/26">Rom. 8:26</a>; <a id="verse_1632880023747203247" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/8/27">27</a>)." -J.O.F."When we once have the deep, calm assurance of His will in the matter, we put in our claim, just as a child before his father.
