For Reading and Meditation:      Hebrews 7:11-28Is it possible to know without any shadow of doubt that one is saved and ready to meet God? This question, says one writer, goes right to the roots of religious experience. Christianity says "Yes." Other religions are not sure. Without exception they will tell you that it savors of presumption to say one is certain that one is saved. I know some Christians have difficulty here also. They contend that we can hope to be saved, or claim we are being saved, but that no one can state with any degree of assurance that they are saved. It is gross self-centeredness, they maintain, and a sign of self-absorption to claim here and now on this earth, "I am saved." Yet John Wesley declared it. On May 24,1738, he walked into a room in Aldersgate Street, London, where he heard someone read the Preface to Luther's commentary on Romans, and as he listened there was given him "an assurance" that God had taken away his sins and saved him from the law of sin and death. Millions all over the world can say as Wesley did that they have an assurance they are saved and know that when they die they will go to heaven. It is not presumption to say you are saved providing, of course, you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Indeed, it is offensive for anyone who has given himself or herself to Christ not to say they are saved. As we see from our text today, Christ promises to save and save completely. I know I'm saved. How about you? O Father, thank You that not only do You save me from my sins and draw me to Yourself but You give me the assurance that I am Yours forever. How can I thank You enough for such wondrous grace? With my stammering tongue, however, I will try. "... [Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him ..." (v. 25) 

The reason is assigned and it is unanswerable: - " He ever liveth to make intercession for them." He lives forever, clothed with all the power derived from his propitiatory death, and animated by the same heart of love that led him to die; he lives in the very place where we most need him; he is there perpetually in our "behalf". He was not more truly on the earth for us than he is in heaven for us, and we may confidently expect to be saved unto the uttermost. Once we had no access to God. There were no invitations for us, no promises. He saved us from that fearful condition. He has endowed us with liberty to draw nigh to God. He has given us his Holy Spirit, - has shed abroad the love of God in our hearts, - has changed our hearts; overcome our sins; and bound us to himself by indissoluble bonds. But all this is scarcely more than a beginning. We have received but an installment. He is able to do vastly more than he has done. He is able to save us from all moral weakness, so that we may look serenely and fearlessly on all temptations, on all dangers that beset us. Is there some infirmity in yourself, some difficulty out of yourself, that seems like a barrier in the way of your progress? He is able to remove this. Have you been so often overcome by the adversary, that you are ready to despair? Take care, and do not disparage the ability of him that is with you to succor you. Does some duty seem tremendous and altogether beyond your force? He is able. Has he done so great things for you that you are ashamed to ask him for more? He requires you to ask until you be saved to the uttermost. Do you shrink from death? Shrink not from the remaining salvation. You must be saved from this present inglorious and inadequate life; from a Church sadly imperfect to a Church clothed in spotless purity; from a mortal and corruptible existence to an immortal incorruptible one. You must be brought to the angels; to the seraphim; to the glorified Son of God; to the throne where the river of the water of life takes its rise.

"He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him." - Hebrews 7:25. 

Inasmuch … as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same. Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. We have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. § In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace. § With His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption… And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. § He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. It appends no commentary, but simply allows scripture to speak for itself.

 There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. 

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died … who also makes intercession for us. § Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. § There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. § Through Him we . . . have access by one Spirit to the Father.

 He always lives to make intercession. 

I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins. § I have given help to one who is mighty. § I, the Lord, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. § Mighty to save. § Able to keep you from stumbling. § Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. § He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him. Is My hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? . . . For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 Their Redeemer is strong. 

You know that He was manifested to take away our sins. § That we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness. § He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed…  The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. § Thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer . . . that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations. § He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance. § Through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. § Your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

 You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. 

[Jesus], because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. § [He] is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory. Seeing … that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace. The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him, who shelters him all the day long; and he shall dwell between His shoulders.

 You shall put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. So Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord. 

If when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. § But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Because I live, you will live also. § If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. “The Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” says the Lord. § We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. § You were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

 I know that my Redeemer lives. 

He was numbered with the transgressors. § Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. § [He] Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. § By one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priest- hood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. § While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 

You shall make an altar to burn incense on  … And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you. Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. Therefore [ Jesus] is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. § The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Pray without ceasing.

Evening Daily Light

 Let my prayer be set before You as incense, the lifting  up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. 

Able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. Able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. Able to aid those who are tempted. Able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. Who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” . . . “According to your faith let it be to you.”

 I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able. 

I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. By one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. § He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. § I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. § Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? § The Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. § Thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. This is not your rest. § Here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.

 Everlasting consolation. 

Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.” § “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.” § I come to do Your will. § Not My will, but Yours, be done. As He is, so are we in this world. § This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. He always lives to make intercession for them. § If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

 You always hear Me. 

He died for all. § Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. He … lives to make intercession for them. § I go to prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. § Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am. § Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. We love Him because He first loved us. § The love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

 See how He loved. 

If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. The Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail.” A righteous man may fall seven times and rise again. § Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand. Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me. § He shall deliver you in six troubles, yes, in seven no evil shall touch you. If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. § Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

 My feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. 

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. § Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. § He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. § Is anything too hard for the Lord? Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.
