Being Born Again (John 3:3-5)

Misery loves company!  That old expression is used to describe those who have the desire to share their misfortunes with others.  Strangely, some find satisfaction knowing that others are suffering right along with them.  At the end of the gospel of John, Jesus gave Peter some insight into his future.  It did not sound good!  Peter's response was to ask the Lord about another disciple, John:  "What would happen to him?"  The Master's response was simple and reminded Peter that what happened to others was not his concern.  What Peter needed to do was make sure HE was focused on HIS faithfulness to the Savior.  Are we ever distracted from our spiritual journey because we are too involved in the affairs of others?  Perhaps, we need to focus on our lives and make sure WE are focused on OUR faithfulness to the Savior. John 17 records the longest prayer of Jesus in the Bible, and it records the longest prayer of anyone in the New Testament. Their protection from temptation, faithfulness to the truth, and ultimate salvation from sin is intricately woven throughout the Lord's prayer demonstrating His overwhelming love for His followers, both then and now. Jesus had His enemies.  After all, He was the Light of Heaven shining in a dark and sinful world.  Thus, it makes perfect sense that the world hated Him. The dead coming back to life.  The buried walking out of their tombs.  In a day and age of zombie movies and "The Walking Dead," this sounds more like Hollywood fiction than historical fact. Context is an important word in Bible study.  Who is being addressed?  Under what circumstance is that person being addressed?  What are the instructions being given?  How are those instructions unique to that person or standard for every person?
