Reaching The Ones 
 
1) Pray 1Thessalonians 1:2-4 
• Pray! Paul’s example: gave thanks, prayed for them. 
• Prayer from genuine heart; admit humility (apart from Him you 
can do nothing - John 15:5). 
• Seek God’s direction, intervention, & release matters to Him. 
• Prayer is not the last thing to do – it’s the best you can do. 
• Prayer for your one lays foundation – for them & us. 
2) Meet Them V.4-7 
• Paul/Silas travel to Thessalonica to share gospel in region. 
• V.5 Gospel came (words, power of Spirit, conviction). 
• V.6 They imitated Paul/Silas, accepted message, were a model 
for others in how to live for Jesus despite persecution. 
• Meet others on their turf. Show them reality of the gospel as 
build relationships, connect to share God’s message. 
3) Share Good News With Them 2:1-6a 
• Paul/Silas spoke God’s message with truth, not manipulative. 
Were pleasing to God, not seeking self-gain.

• Isaiah 8:19-22 Dismal picture. Appears no hope for future. 
• 9:1-3 Light of hope comes. 
• 9:6 A child born, to govern/rule all. 
• If Messiah is in charge, we don’t have to be! 
II) Wonderful, Counselor! 
• Name (honor, reputation, fame). Identity. 
• Wonderful miracle, marvelous. 
• Counselor, rules, counsels, advises. (Colossians 1:16). 
III)Might God 
• Mighty: Strong, valiant, warrior; Powerful, Champion. 
• “Mighty God” found 3x (Isaiah 10:21; Jeremiah 32:18). 
• Deuteronomy 10:17 similar terms used. 
• This title to a newborn is remarkable. Refers to baby as the 
incarnation of God, God in the flesh. 
• Paul describes Jesus: Philippians 2:6-8. 
• Everlasting Father: glimpse to His unique nature. Eternal, 
deity, loving & kind to all His creation. 
• Only thru Jesus we receive eternal life. (John 14:6) 
IV) Prince of Peace 
• Thru this King, we find genuine peace.

• God extends His favor & blessing to restore relationships – 
peace with one another and with God. He is Prince of Peace.

• V.36-40 Doubt evident. Seeks sign to confirm God’s word. 
• Signs given to increase faith: 
o Noah – rainbow, promise not flood again (Genesis 9). 
o Moses – staff & hand (Exodus 4). 
o Hezekiah – shadow goes backwards (2Kings 20). 
• Jesus on seeking a miraculous sign (Matthew 12:38-39; 16:1-4) 
• Trust God’s Word -- believe, trust, have faith. 
II) Removing Manpower – Trusting God 7:1-8a 
• Midianites at Mt Moreh. Israel at Harod Spring (Mt. Gilboa). 
• Those afraid released – 22,000 leave. 
• 10,000 remain, too many. 300 chosen as they drink water. 
• Test shows Gideon’s developing faith, “Lord is with you.” 
• Rational thoughts & what we see is a challenge in trusting God. 
• Faith depends to whom you listen. 
• By faith: 
o Abram left for an unknown land. 
o Moses demands Israel’s release from Egypt. 
o Joshua led Israel around Jericho walls. 
III) Evidence of God’s Work 7:8b-25 
• Gideon overhears Midianite’s dream.

• God’s work is the focus, is evident. 
Application 
• The Lord is with you. Jesus assures. Also, Hebrews 13:5.

• Love covers multitude of sins (forgiveness).

o Hospitable: kind, generous, friendly. 
o Grumbling: murmuring, complaining 
• Summary: Purpose to glorify God is evident when we have a clear mind, are alert & self-controlled, can pray effectively. Allows us to love & forgive others, be kind for God’s glory.

• V.10 Gifted to serve with grace/power. 
• Stewards of God’s gifts, utilize wisely.

Revelation 2:18-29 
 
I) Jesus Described V.18 
 • Eyes blazing fire, feet burnished bronze. See 1:14-15. 
II) Faithful Perseverance V.19 
 • Know deeds (works). Same phrase v.2 (Ephesus). 
 • Aware of love & service. 
 • Compliments faith & endurance. 
 • Works more evident now than at start. 
 • Are we growing in love, faith, service? 
III)Judgment Upon Corruption 
 • Confrontation: tolerating a “Jezebel” who corrupts. 
 • 1 Kings 16:30-33, King Ahab marries Jezebel, Baal 
 worship and Asherah worship. 
 • “Jezebel” influence in church – sexual misconduct, food 
 offered to idols. (Acts 15:28-29 forbidden). Similar to 
 Baalamite & Nicolaitan ways at Ephesus & Pergamum. 
 • V.21-23 Lord’s discipline to come on her, those with her. 
 • Today, relaxed views of godly purity, tolerating cultural 
 influence regarding sex & idolatry distracting us from the 
 Lord. 
 • V.24-25 The faithful to persevere, the Lord is coming! 
IV) Gift for Those Who Overcome V.26-29 
 • Those who overcome, given authority over nations. 
 • Psalm 2:8-9 Identical language, quote. 
 • “Ruling” is to lead, guide, shepherd. 
 • Jesus gives disciples authority to minister, Matthew 10. 
 • V.29, Given morning star – Jesus (Revelation 22:16). 
 Are you tolerating ways inconsistent with purity as one in 
 Christ? Repent, walk with Jesus. 
 Are you away from the Lord, needing to walk with Him? 
 Repent, confess, ask forgiveness, trust Jesus’ sacrifice, serve 
 Him. Receive Jesus, excel in persevering in Him.
