[8] Confession of Sin | If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth isn’t in us. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. So, lets draw near with a humble and repentant heart, and acknowledge our sins before God [1 John 1:8-2:2]… 
 
Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgement. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ our Saviour, amen.

[10] Prayer | Psalm 96 calls the world to worship God because of his glory as the One true God, and because he is the just Judge of all. Acts 2 reminds us that the Spirit empowers the church to take these truths to the world. [8] Assurance of Forgiveness | Soul weighed down by guilt, hear the good news of God’s forgiveness when we run to Jesus like Peter, rather than run away like Judas: ‘When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.’ [Psalm 32:3-5] 
 
[9] Reading | PSALM 69 
 
[10] Prayer | Psalm 69 helps us to pray for the persecuted church, those suffering simply for being Christians. Take time to pray, especially for Christians in Iran. You could simply use the words of v.29 to pray: 
‘But as for [them], afflicted and in pain— 
may your salvation, God, protect [them].’

[12] Benediction | ROMANS 8:35-39 | ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ Amen!

[9] Affirmation of Faith | In response to reading of Jesus being taken up to heaven in Acts 1, lets remind ourselves and affirm together how the ascension benefits us as Christians… [Heidelberg Catechism, Q.49] 
 
Q. How does Christ’s ascension to heaven benefit us? 
 
A. First, he is our advocate in heaven in the presence of his Father. Second, we have our own flesh in heaven as a sure pledge that Christ our head will also take us, his members, up to himself. Third, he sends his Spirit to us on earth as a corresponding pledge. By the Spirit’s power we seek not earthly things but the things above, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand.

[9] Assurance of Pardon | Now hear the good news provided by the Lord of mercy: By faith in Jesus Christ, I am right with God and heir to life everlasting. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments and of never having kept any of them, and even though I am still inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without my deserving it at all, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I have never sinned, nor been a sinner, as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is accept this gift of God with a believing heart.
