Disciples’ Great Commissions 
 
 Command - to go and make disciples Matthew 28:19 
 The disciple has been called by Christ Jesus to go out in obedience to fulfill one of His last commands that was made here on earth to those who serve Him as their Lord and Saviour. We are to be a testimony and light to a lost world, not through our own power and strength, but through the power and strength that comes by being filled with the Holy Spirit. The disciple is to be a testimony of the Good News of Jesus Christ, we are to be his hands and feet, but most of all we are to be His testimony to our neighbours, cities, and countries; some will go out to the uttermost parts of the earth. We are commanded to do this because it is part of His divine will for our personal lives. 
 In all four books of the Gospel, plus the book of Acts the disciples are called and commanded to go out, to bear fruit that will bring glory to His Name. 
 a. Matthew 28:16-20 
 - all authority has been given v. 18 
 - we must go to all nations to make disciples v.19 
 - baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit 
 - teaching them to observe all things 
 - we are all to observe and be taught according to God’s commands v.20

 - needed a soft heart in Christ v.14

 It is time to go out and personally begin to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission as His disciples. Remember, He will empower us for service so that no matter what comes our way, we will be able to stand strong in His wisdom, strength and ability, because we have hearts of faith and hearts that are soft and open to the will of God.

Paul’s deep desire for Timothy was that he would be a strong leader, guiding the Ephesian church into a deeper understanding concerning the proclaiming of the Scriptures. There will be people who will just have itching ears, but will not want to commit and live out the fulness of the word. A disciple is a discipline one who follows with a deep heart desire after our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to be teachers and exhorters with all longsuffering will we minister.

The purpose of Scripture is to bring about inward change and deeper fellowship with Christ. The end goal of Scripture is to make us complete, equipped and prepared for any work of service.

Paul’s deep desire for Timothy was that he would be a strong leader, guiding the Ephesian church into a deeper understanding concerning certain kinds of people and how to handle these people with their deceptive truth that they profess to others in these last days. There will be people who will be like Jannes and Jambres who where idol worshipper, people who where sorcerers, magicians, and enchanters. Making it look like they were connected to God by doing various signs and wonders, but the truth was they were men of corrupt minds desiring to control and destroy the people of God.

Paul’s deep desire for Timothy was that he would be a strong leader, guiding the Ephesian church into a deeper understanding concerning the snares of the devil and how the devil desires to capture people into doing his will here on earth. As disciples we must flee and avoid areas of sin and pursue after that which is the fullness of God’s will and truth.

Thought: All kinds of people are all useful when cleansed and sanctified by the Master Jesus Christ. 
 
Reflection: 
Paul’s deep desire for Timothy was that he would be a strong leader, guiding the Ephesian church into a deeper understanding of who they are in Christ Jesus. They are many vessels, but there can truly only one kind that which is the one that is fashioned by the Master who cleanses, sanctifies, and honours, as a special possession of His own. A vessel that is seal and filled with the Holy Spirit for the ministry of service.

It is also important for the Christian not to become a busybody type of believer, for this is not the way or will that Christ Jesus desires for us to live.

Paul is exhorting the church and the disciples to see and understand that Christ has come to separate us, from the indulgences of the things of this world. Again, we should stay away from things of the world that lead us into a deeper walk of bondage and we should not think that it is ok to touch, taste and handle these things that the world says, “done in moderation is OK”.

Paul is thanking the church for Epaphroditus, for he has truly been a fellow brother, worker, and soldier. He represented you as a church well, as a true messenger both from the church and from God. Paul was now sending him back with eagerness, gladness and exhorted the church to esteem in the Lord. He has served the Lord well to the place he was willing to give his life, so that Paul’s need could be met. We too are challenge from these Scriptures, that we also should be willing to go out and represent our home church well to others.

Reflections: 
Paul is asking the church to be ready to receive from him, Timothy. In the midst of Paul’s own personal needs, he is going to send Timothy, one whom you can trust, one who is like-minded, one who does not seek his own desires, but serves faithfully and cares for others in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Question? Are we willing to be sent and go to others to be an encouragement in the gospel?

Reflections: 
Paul wanted the church to know what we have been given in Christ through the gospel. Even though he has been physically chained, the gospel has been going out with confidence, boldness and without fear. Paul’s life, boar evidence of the gospel power in others and that his chains are chains in Christ. The truth of Christ and His gospel has been setting people free both in truth and in love. The situation that one may find themselves in, does not need to hinder the power of the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

Each disciple needs to be wise and understand that we are on a journey with Christ Jesus who desires that our heart’s would be full of song and thankfulness in Him, which comes both by walking in His will and being filled with His Spirit. 
 
Key Church Application: 
The church as a body of believers is call corporately to walk in the wisdom and will of Christ Jesus and to be seeking together that the Holy Spirit will work in us and through us to the place that we can come into submission and unity with each other. 
 
Key Question: When we take time to reflect on our daily walk, what are we drunk with, is it in the things of this world or the fulness and power of the Holy Spirit? 
 
Key Prayer Focus for Today: To pray, that God will make clear those areas that we need to be wise in and how to redeem the time that He has given to us for serving Him.

Our life must be one that lives and function according to the headship of Christ, being able to do all things because we are rooted and grounded in the power of His love. 
 
Key Church Application: 
The church as a body of believers must realize that we are called to make known to others the fulness and power of God, to come into the understanding concerning the width, length, depth, height, of His love and that He is able to do all things according to the power that is to be working in the believers of His church. 
 
Key Question: What kind of power and fulness are we grounded and rooted in, that of the world or that of the living fulness Christ? 
 
Key Prayer Focus for Today: To pray, that we may see in a real way the fulness and power that Christ desires to abundantly pour out in us through His love to others.
