"The Love of God Perfected" 1 John 2:3-5

"Comparing Ourselves" 2 Corinthians 10:12

When Paul instructs the church about giving it is never about duty, obligation or law. It is a gift of God's grace. An opportunity for us to participate in what He is doing in the world. He shows us the promise of our Abba's provision and multiplication in order to increase our harvest of righteousness. Giving doesn't make us righteous but flows from the gift of His righteousness and brings others into the embrace of the same gift. He gives us the beautiful promise to enrich us ever more that we might be ever more generous to advancing our Kings reign. This brings glory to God and thanksgiving.

There is a principal of nature that has a spiritual application; those who sow sparingly reap sparingly. We don't give to get but being stingy with the resources that God has entrusted to us also means we limit our participation in His harvest. Giving is to be a cheerful act of obedience to His promptings in our heart, so that all of our giving is a cheerful participation with Him in what He is doing to advance His kingdom in this world. "A Cheerful Giver" 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Paul reminds us that we are the temple of the living God and that changes how we live in the world. We have the wonderful promise of His indwelling presence. As His beloved children we must not allow ourselves to be distracted from our King and His kingdom. Instead we cooperate with His indwelling life to eliminate and attitude or action that defiles body or spirit for we never lose our awe of who He is as our Lord and God.

The beauty of the Gospel is that is always about Him, His finished work on the cross, His faithfulness and His life being expressed through us. We believers are not the focus, we are often weak but He lives in us in order to express His great power through us. We are never left to our own resources but have His divine life in us to be our source for all the trials and tribulations of life. It is always about the life of Jesus being manifest in our mortal body's.

We have the assurance of all God's promises not because we are faithful but because He is faithful. We have nothing to boast about. He who died as us and for us that He might live through us works through us for His glory. He has anointed each of us for the great privilege of being His ambassadors in a hurting world. He put His seal of ownership upon us through the Holy Spirit to be our guarantee that He will do all that He has promises us as His children.

The prophet Jeremiah had a very challenging calling. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that people responded to his message but he remained faithful to calling the people to remember the promises of God to them. They suffered horrible consequences due to their rebellion, however, God reminds them that His plan for them is good. We New Covenant Christians can learn powerful truths from this. God's heart for us is always good. He is faithful to all of His promises even when we are not faithful to Him.

King David shows us the beauty of living in relationship with God. He is ready to forgive us of all or iniquity. He is our hiding place and He is the one who instructs us and counsels us in all of the journeys of life. The child of God is not dependent on their own wisdom but have the Holy Spirit living in them to show them all that He desires to do in and through them. That is our great privilege.

Psalm 32:6-8

Jacob, though frequently deceitful, was still a child of God's covenant. He had just deceived his own father and brother and was now on a journey to his uncles for his own safety. One evening the Lord gives him a dream and makes the beautiful promise that He will always be with Him. He will fulfill His promises. His security is not to be found in his own faithfulness but the faithfulness of God. As believers and children of God Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that we have the same perfect promise of God that He will always be with us. Now, that's great news!

"I Am With You, I Will Keep You" Genesis 28:12-15

God reminded Israel that He had chosen them. They were the descendants of His servant Israel and His friend Abraham. The believer lives in security as the chosen of God. Yes, we are His servants but we are also His friends. He rightfully rules over our lives but He calls us friends as He reveals His good will and purposes for us. Because of this beautiful relationship we don't have to live in fear for He is always with us. He is our strength and empowerment for all of life.

"Fear Not, I Am With You" Isaiah 41:8-10

When we find life in the vine the result is that we bear fruit. We are to live in the world as those who are loved. We live out of divine friendship as vessels that express His love. Here Jesus reminds us that we didn't choose Him but He chose us. He is the initiator of the relationship and He is the one that sustains us. He is our security. He didn't choose us ignorant of who we were but fully knowing all of our weaknesses and failures He chose us to reveal His life through us. It isn't about what we have to offer Him but what He has to offer us. He chose us, He appointed us to be His representatives in this hurting world. As Ambassadors of Christ we don't present our own positions or opinions but those of Christ. We have been given the great promise of knowing when we come to Him in prayer seeking His will that we will be empowered to do, say, go and give all that He desires to do through us. In the end this always looks like a people who love in the same selfless and sacrificial way He has loved us.

"I chose You to be Vessels of Love" John 15:16-17

In this passage we see the connection between abiding in Him and obedience. Obedience is an outflow of finding Him as your source. Obedience isn't a burden as we live as those who are loved because we understand all of His commands are centered in His love for us. Once again we see Jesus remind us as disciples that we are to love as He has loved us. This abiding and obedience is the path to experiencing the fullness of joy.

In this passage we see the connection between abiding in Him and obedience.  Obedience is an outflow of finding Him as your source.  Obedience isn't a burden as we live as those who are loved because we understand all of His commands are centered in His love for us.  Once again we see Jesus remind us as disciples that we are to love as He has loved us.  This abiding and obedience is the path to experiencing the fullness of joy.

The disciple of Jesus is called to live in His love and allow His love to flow through them in the world. The one thing that is to make us distinct as His disciples is love. We are not the source of love, He is! God who is love gave His life for us, so He could live in us and express His love through us. He doesn't love us because we love Him. He loves us with the same love the Father loves Him. When we live in this love it brings glory to Him.

There are many religions built on a system that you have to go to a specific place if you want to meet with God. Paul reminds us that God does not live in man made temples nor does He need anything. He is the creator and sustainer of all things. He chose to make us His dwelling place and it is His desire to live His life through us.

Jesus sums everything up with His disciples with the commandment to love one another in the same way that He has loved them. It is essential for us to live as those who are loved fully, completely and unconditionally or we will never find ourselves able to love others in the same way. Not only that, He also calls us friends. The evidence that we are the friends of God is that He laid down His life for us. He gave His life for us that He might live in us and transform us into vessels that express His love to a hurting world.

Sometimes we surprise ourselves with our attitudes and actions and think God too must be surprises and very disappointed. This passage reminds us that nothing is unknown by God. Nothing catches Him off guard. He knows everything there is to know so there are no secrets. Secrets will make you sick and afraid of intimacy and He desires you to walk in security and intimacy with Him.

"Searched and Known" Psalm 139:1-5

Paul reminds us that as children of the New Covenant we are not under the Law. In fact all things are lawful for us. We have no dietary restriction however not all things are helpful, profitable or uplifting. We have to reject the temptation to be self-seeking and remember that as children of the King, His kingdom is our primary pursuit and therefore how we love others is paramount.
